A beautiful new construction project in Wenduine was recently roofed with white Alphathor Snow EPDM – expertly executed by Bram Boon. The result is not only sleek and aesthetically pleasing, but also technically sophisticated. For those building with an eye to the future, a white EPDM roof offers several advantages that are becoming increasingly important today.

Cooler roof surface thanks to heat reflection
While traditional black roof membranes absorb a lot of solar heat, Alphathor Snow reflects a significant portion of the sun's rays. This reduces the roof surface's temperature by up to 30–50°C during the summer months compared to a traditional dark roof.
Less heating of indoor spaces
Reduced strain on air conditioning or cooling systems
Concretely lower energy consumption in warm periods
This makes a white roof a smart choice in a climate where summers are becoming increasingly hot and long. The benefits don't stop at energy efficiency. Because a white roof surface heats up less, the ambient temperature around solar panels also remains lower. And that's crucial: the hotter a solar panel gets, the lower its efficiency. At +20°C above standard temperature, efficiency can drop by 8 to 15%. With a reflective white roof:
Is the ambient temperature of PV panels reduced?
Improve performance and yield
Do owners benefit from more green energy year after year?
